Itinerary

Day 1 :
Welcome to the Tambopata Rainforest!

Your Amazon adventure begins with reception at the airport or land terminal in Puerto Maldonado. After a brief transfer to our offices for the necessary registrations (it is recommended to repack and take only the essentials for the tour), we will embark on a package trip. First, a land transfer of approximately 2 hours will take us to the banks of the Tambopata River. From there, we'll board a boat for a picturesque river trip to the Lodge, your comfortable base of operations in the middle of the jungle. Upon arrival, you will be greeted with a warm welcome, assigned to your room and enjoyed a revitalizing lunch. In the afternoon, you will embark on an introductory walk through the rainforest. This first contact with the ecosystem will allow you to observe the rich local biodiversity, including various species of amphibians, mammals, reptiles and a fascinating variety of insects in their natural habitat.

Day 2 :
The Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick Show and Night Adventure

The most exciting day begins very early. We will wake up at 4:30 AM to head by boat to the Chuncho Collpa, the largest macaw clay lick in the world. The boat trip of approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes is an experience in itself, offering the incredible opportunity to spot rare species such as ronsocos (the largest rodents in the world), sachavacas, and even, with luck, the majestic jaguar, the most beautiful South American cat.

Once at the clay lick, you will marvel at the natural spectacle of hundreds of parrots and macaws of various species (red and green, blue and yellow) that congregate to consume clay from the wall adjacent to the river. This clay is essential for their diet, as it provides them with nutrients and helps eliminate toxins. You will settle comfortably to observe one of the most impressive bird events in the world, an experience that will leave you with lasting memories.

Once this activity is over, we will return to our accommodation to enjoy a delicious lunch. In the afternoon, our boat will take you back to the transportation that will take you to Puerto Maldonado, and from there, on a 1-hour river boat trip, we will arrive at the Lodge - Lago Sandoval where you will settle into your room. At dusk, we will carry out an exciting search for white caimans along the sand banks of the Madre de Dios River, using flashlights to spot them. If luck is with us, you will also be able to see the capybara, the largest rodent in the world. Finally, we will return to the lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 3 :
Exploration of Lake Sandoval and Return to Puerto Maldonado

After an energizing breakfast, we will embark on a 3-kilometer hike through the dense rainforest, heading towards the impressive Sandoval Lake. This lake, considered one of the largest in the Tambopata National Reserve and a natural habitat for piranhas, invites us to a quiet rowing boat ride. During navigation, we will have the opportunity to appreciate an amazing variety of birds and monkeys of different species in their natural environment, completely immersing ourselves in the serenity and beauty of the lake ecosystem.

After this unforgettable experience at Lake Sandoval, we will return to our accommodation to enjoy a typical Amazonian lunch. Finally, it will be time to say goodbye to the jungle. We will transfer you back to the city of Puerto Maldonado, and from there to the airport or bus terminal, concluding this fascinating immersion tour in the Peruvian Amazon.
